18 July 2026 | Othandweni, Mofolo, Soweto
Mandela Day is a reminder that meaningful change begins when ordinary people choose to make a difference.
On 18 July 2026, Hands of Helpers had the privilege of spending Mandela Day with the children and community of Othandweni in Mofolo, Soweto, as part of our commitment to restoring hope and empowering communities.
Our Mandela Day outreach brought together volunteers, supporters and community members to share essential items, food and, most importantly, care and encouragement with those in need.
The day was about more than simply giving. It was about showing up, connecting with the community and reminding every child that they matter.
Through the generosity of our supporters and the dedication of our volunteers, we were able to create moments of joy and make a tangible difference in the lives of the Othandweni community.
For Hands of Helpers, Mandela Day is not simply an annual event. It represents the kind of community work we believe in — restoring hope, empowering communities and creating opportunities for people to thrive.
We believe that change does not always begin with something big. Sometimes, it begins with a meal, a helping hand, a kind word or simply being present for someone who needs it.
Our time at Othandweni reminded us of the power of collective action. When communities, organisations, volunteers and individuals come together, even a single day can leave a lasting impact.
We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to making our Mandela Day outreach possible — our volunteers, donors, supporters, partners and the Othandweni community.
Your contribution helped us turn compassion into action.
Together, we can continue building communities where hope is restored, dignity is protected and every person has the opportunity to thrive.
Hands of Helpers
Restoring hope. Empowering communities.
There is a lot that happens around the world we cannot control. We cannot stop earthquakes, we cannot prevent droughts, and we cannot prevent all conflict, but when we know where the hungry, the homeless and the sick exist, then we can help.
